Community Tool Box
Building Healthy Communities
Looking for community-based solutions? The Community Tool Box (CTB) website is
a free resource provided by the University of Kansas and offers practical
skill-building information on over 250 different topics. Since new users
may have different needs and skill levels, we have found four different entry
points into the CTB. You can’t go wrong so feel free to click around for the method
that works best for you.
-
Getting Information - Detailed & comprehensive. This part reads like a
book. To help organize your learning, 46 chapters are organized into 13 categories.
If you need to train others, each section has text that can be quickly turned into
overheads and a series of checklists that summarize the main points that can be used to
evaluate your community’s progress.

Doing Your Work - Practical & prescriptive. This section is streamlined for
action. Outlines, examples, and how-tos are designed to get you and your team into the
work. This content is organized into 16 tool kits or competencies

Logic Model - Visual & integrated. This section brings the previous section
together into a 12-part model. After orienting yourself to the model, there are links back
to the 16 competencies described in the Doing Your Work section. An added feature is a
detailed evidence for each step in the model.
