Common Application Systems
A common application is a single form or on-line application process where families can apply for services from multiple agencies; without have to answer frustrating duplicate questions.
States with a Common Application System
Wisconsin
Wisconsin's ACCESS is a quick and easy internet tool that provides information to Wisconsin families about health and nutrition and allows them to apply for low- or no-cost state programs such as FoodShare, BadgerCare Plus, and Medicaid. Participants can also check eligibility for these programs, monitor the status of filed applications, and report changes to their application. Families who speak Spanish can apply for the same services using the easily accessible Spanish translation of the site.
ACCESS also has a site that connects families to the Children with Special Health Care Needs program and has related information about disabilities, resources, and opportunities for support. Center staff works with families to facilitate connections to service coordination. The program is called Wisconsin - First Step.
Pennsylvania
Pennsylvania's COMPASS allows families to be screened and apply for a wide range of health and human services programs such as Medical Assistance, Cash Assistance, Long Term Care, and School Meals. The COMPASS website allows potential applicants to explore and learn more about these benefits by clicking on related links. Visitors can also learn about the community-based agencies, organizations, coalitions, hospitals, and church groups that wish to help Pennsylvanians submit their applications.
Michigan
Michigan's MIChild health insurance program provides a website for working families to easily fill out the needed application online. This single application can be completed in 30 minutes or less. Families will also be automatically screened for other state programs, such as Healthy Kids, PLAN FIRST! and MOMS, when they apply.
Utah
Utah's UtahClicks provides a one-stop location for families in Utah to apply for state services with the unique benefit of only having to answer repetitive questions, such as name and social security number, once. Many programs are available for application on UtahClicks, such as Baby Watch, Head Start, CHIP, and Medicaid. Families in Utah can also access a separate single application through the Utah Department of Health for state-funded insurance benefits for CHIP, UPP, and PCN.
Florida
Florida's ACCESS is a newly modernized online tool that is based on streamlined workflows, policy simplification, technology innovations, and partnership with local communities. ACCESS allows families to check eligibility, apply for programs, and monitor the status of filed applications for programs such as Food Stamps, Medicaid, and Temporary Cash Assistance. The website also provides links to services provided by other organizations.
